Redemption and Salvation

The Trinity

Human Beings and Their Need

Jesus Christ

We believe Scripture is the inspired Word of the living God, and that it is inerrant in all the original, God-breathed manuscripts. The Bible, made up of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments,  is the absolute authority on all matters of faith and conduct. We believe the men who wrote Scripture were carried along by the Holy Spirit to write precisely what God intended. (Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21)

We believe in God the Father, who is immortal, invisible, perfectly good, and sovereign over all things. Out of the overflow of His great mercy and love for sinners, the Father worked salvation by sending His Son to die a sinner’s death. The Father works all things ultimately according to His perfect plan for the good of His people, and every good thing ultimately comes from Him. (John 3:16; Ephesians 1:3-14; James 1:17)

We believe God created human beings in His own image to be in relationship with God. We believe that ever since Adam sinned, human beings are born with a sinful nature and are sinners by choice. Because of this rebellion against God, human beings have cut themselves off from God and stand under His just condemnation. No religious works or human effort could ever change man’s sinful condition. We believe that when sinful human beings repent and forsake sin and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior, they are regenerated and indwelled by the Holy Spirit, adopted as a child of God, forgiven of all sin, and made new creations in Christ. (Genesis 1:26-27; Psalm 51:5; Romans 3:10-24; 5:12; Ephesians 2:1-3)

The Last Things

We believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ and the establishment of His kingdom. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment, and the final destination of every person. The righteous will enter into the eternal joy of the new heaven and new earth with God and His angels, and the wicked will go into the eternal punishment of the lake of fire along with the devil and his angels. (1 Thessalonians 4:15; Titus 2:13; 1 Corinthians 15; Revelation 20:4-6, 11-15: 21:1-5)

We believe in the Holy Spirit, who is sent by the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. We believe He regenerates, indwells, and sanctifies every believer in Jesus Christ. His ministry is most evident by the way He seeks to glorify and honor Jesus Christ. (John 7:39; 16:8, 14)

The Bible

What We Believe

We believe that because Jesus lived a sinless life, fulfilling God’s law perfectly, He alone was qualified to bear the sins of the world in His body on the cross and be a substitute for sinners of every age, ethnicity, and background. On the cross, Jesus endured the punishment for our sin, bearing the righteous wrath of a holy God, thereby securing our redemption. All who put their trust in Jesus alone are declared righteous, reconciled to God, and granted eternal life. Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. (Isaiah 53:4-6; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 3:21-25; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Galatians 2:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Peter 2:24)

God the Father

We believe in Jesus Christ, who is the eternal Son of God, without beginning or end. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, and teaching. We believe He came into this world and became a man in order to bear our sin and die the death we deserved. Jesus physically and bodily rose from the tomb on the third day, in accordance with the Scriptures, and appeared to many before ascending into heaven, where He sat down at the right hand of the Father and, with the Father, sent forth the Holy Spirit to indwell all who repent of sin and trust in Him for eternal life. Because the church has been redeemed by the blood of Jesus, He is the Head from whom all growth and transformation flows. We believe in His physical return to earth to judge and to save. (Luke 1:26-38; 19:10; John 1:1-3, 14; 14:6-11; Acts 2:32-33; 1 Corinthians 15:1-8; Colossians 1:18)

Holy Spirit

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ committed two ordinances to the local church, the Lord’s Supper and baptism by immersion in water. Baptism is to be done as an outward act of obedience in response to the inward renewal wrought by the Holy Spirit. The Lord’s Supper is to be done regularly as a church and should be marked by confession of sin and reflection on the Lord’s sacrificial death. (Matthew 28:18-20; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26))

The Ordinances

We believe in the one true God, who has eternally existed as three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that all of life only makes sense in relationship to this God for whom we were made and in whose image we were created. These three persons are co-equally fully God, and they sovereignly work together in perfect harmony in creation, providence, and redemption. (Genesis 1:26-27; Matthew 28:18-20; John 1:1-3; Ephesians 1:3-14)

We believe in the universal church consists of all who have been regenerated and united together by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ. The church is the expression of Christ to the world with a mission to proclaim Christ to the nations. The local church is a company of believers in Jesus Christ, baptized on a credible profession of faith, that meet together to worship the Lord and fellowship together. Jesus Christ, the Chief Shepherd, is the Head of the church and has appointed pastors to care for His sheep, teach the Word of God, and equip them for ministry. (Matthew 28:18-20; John 10:11; Acts 2:42; 20:28; Hebrews 10:25)
